Police say a Vermont man has been charged with stabbing his wife multiple times and leaving her to die at their home.
The Caledonian Record reports 53-year-old Roberto Vargas, of Newport, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree aggravated domestic assault with a weapon.
A judge ordered that he be held without bail.
Police say Vargas assaulted 47-year-old Jane Vargas in April after an argument about babysitting. Jane Vargas told police that her husband was intoxicated.
Police say she was bleeding heavily from a gash in her neck and also bleeding from an abdomen wound.
Prosecutors say Roberto Vargas has a history of domestic violence.
Defense attorney Zachery Weight says his office may ask for bail at a future hearing.
