Walmart Employee Accused of Stealing $200K Cash From Machine

A Vermont man is facing embezzlement charges after he allegedly stole $200,000 in cash from a Walmart.

Forty-two-year-old Ronald Downes Jr. was recently arrested at his home in Enosburgh Falls after a lengthy investigation by St. Albans police, authorities said.

Investigators learned that a cash recycler at a Walmart in St. Albans was missing large amounts of cash in early February and that $200,000 went missing from late 2017 through early 2018.

Surveillance video revealed that an employee, identified as Downes, was taking the cash from the recycler while performing maintenance on the machine.

Downes will face felony embezzlement charges on June 18 at Franklin County Superior Court. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
