14-Year-Old Arrested for Carrying Loaded Gun in Boston

A 14-year-old is facing several charges after police discovered he was carrying a loaded gun.

Officers on patrol in Boston Friday evening noticed a large group that appeared to be smoking inside of the Trotter School Playground after dusk.

As officers spoke with three boys, one of them started to breathe heavily and leaned forward as if to hide an item in his sweatshirt pocket, police said.

Officers asked the boy to stand up out of fear that he had a weapon. The boy tried to run, but officers were able to catch him. They then found a SCCY CPX-1 firearm with four rounds of ammunition in the suspect's waistband.

The 14-year-old suspect, of Dorchester, didn't have a valid license to carry. He was subsequently taken into custody, police said.

He is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
