The American Red Cross is helping three families after a fire on Chapel Street in New Haven Saturday.
New Haven fire officials said they were called to a house fire at 61 Chapel Street around 7:40 p.m. It was initially reported that someone may have been trapped so a 2nd alarm was struck.
When firefighters arrived they found heavy fire on the second floor and had to assist several people out of the building, but no one was trapped as initially reported.

It took firefighters around 15 minutes to get the blaze under control.
None of the occupants reported any injuries, but one firefighter did suffer a shoulder injury during the call.
Fifteen people were inside at the time – a total of 17 people live in the building.
There is moderate damage to the building from the fire, smoke and water, particularly on the second floor.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
