Prison Inmate Reveals Why He Killed Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer was accused of killing and sometimes mutilating and cannibalizing 17 young men in the Milwaukee area

The prison inmate who fatally beat renowned Wisconsin serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in 1994 has opened up about why he killed him.

Christopher Scarver, the inmate accused of beating Dahmer to death, told the New York Post he despised Dahmer for his crimes involving murder and cannibalism and for his seeming lack of repentance. Scarver also said Dahmer would fashion severed limbs out of prison food and taunt the other inmates, creating many enemies in the facility.

Both Scarver and Dahmer were imprisoned at Wisconsin's Columbia Correctional Institution on murder charges when the fatal beating took place. Scarver is accused of murdering his former boss during an attempted robbery after he was fired. Dahmer was accused of killing 17 young men, some of whom he mutilated and cannibalized, in the Milwaukee area.

According to the New York Post, both inmates arrived at the prison around the same time in 1992, but they rarely interacted. Instead, Scarver watched Dahmer from afar and kept his distance. He also held onto a newspaper clipping detailing how Dahmer killed, mutilated and sometimes ate his victims.

The two were forced to clean a bathroom together with a third inmate unsupervised on Nov. 28, 1994, when Scarver decided to kill Dahmer. He told the New York Post that one of the other two inmates poked him in the back, but he couldn't tell which one.

Scarver later cornered Dahmer in a locker room, holding a metal bar from the weight room, and asked him if he committed the crimes the newspaper article said he was accused of. When he saw that Dahmer was frightened, he took two swings at him with the bar and crushed his skull.

Scarver then returned to the third inmate and killed him in a similar fashion.

Following the prison murder, Scarver moved through different prison facilities. He ultimately landed at Centennial Correctional Facility, where he is currently serving three life sentences, one for the murder of his former boss and two for the slayings of Dahmer and the other inmate.
