Dangerous Heat Continues, Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Pass

There will be spotty afternoon thunderstorms mainly north and west

What to Know

  • Today (Tuesday): Sunny and steamy. Chance evening thunder north & west. Highs in the 90s, heat index 100°.
  • Overnight Tuesday Night: Chance shower, very muggy. Lows in the 70s.
  • Wednesday: Very humid, developing showers/thunder. Highs in the 80s.

Dangerous heat continues Tuesday with heat indices hovering around 100° for many. A heat advisory continues through 8 p.m. Tuesday for most of New England, except a few counties well to the north.

Actual temperatures will largely be in the 90s, except for far Northern New England, where it will be in the 80s. Dew point temperatures in the 70s will make it feel at least 5 degrees warmer than actual temperatures read.

Record high temperatures will largely stay safe today, expected to fall several degrees short of previous records.

A line of afternoon thunderstorms sweeps through from Northwest to Southeast through the evening hours. Heavy downpours are possible, as are some damaging wind gusts. The activity diminishes later this evening, fizzling out before reaching far Southeast New England.

More widespread showers and storms are expected Wednesday as a weak front swings through the region. That front continues to bring us activity Thursday before a second disturbance approaches Friday.

More refreshing air arrives in the wake of that Friday disturbance, as drier air from the Northwest filters in.

Temperatures cool slightly into the weekend, but we still have a chance of spotty showers developing both days.
