Man Rescued From 3-Alarm Fire at Taunton Home

Firefighters rescued a man from a 6-apartment home that caught fire Tuesday night in Taunton, Massachusetts.

Crews responded around 8:20 p.m. to Harrison Street, where a 2.5-story wood-frame home was ablaze.

A ladder was used to get a man off a second-floor balcony. He was conscious and alert when he was rescued.

Destinee Augustine also escaped the fire. She says all she wanted was a photo album of her mother, who died 17 years ago.

Augustine says they never really had a relationship, so the photos were all she had.

Her boyfriend was able to grab the album before they got out.

"It's just a beautiful thing, and right now, it's the only thing that is giving me light," she said. "It is enough to push us, I think, through all of this crazy commotion that we have."

The fire reached three alarms, with approximately 35 firefighters responding.

The roof collapsed into the building around 10:30 p.m.

All of the residents were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts said it was assisting three families.
