A multi-agency investigation is underway at the MBTA Commuter Rail stop in Mansfield, Massachusetts, after a man seriously injured himself Friday afternoon with a firework.
Deputy Chief Jim Puleo of the Mansfield Fire Department called it a "traumatic injury of the hand."
"When we arrived, the male party had serious injuries to his hand," Puelo said. "He was immediately treated and taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries."
The firework went off in the parking lot, which is privately owned.
The victim, trying to find help, ran to the train platform, leaving a trail of blood behind.
Puleo says the man had "consumer grade fireworks." It's unclear what type or where the victim got the fireworks.
"Apparently, he tried to ignite it, or it ignited on its own," Puelo said.

Police say after lighting the fuse, the man went back to pick up the firework and it exploded in his hand.
In Massachusetts, it's illegal to possess or use fireworks unless you're licensed.
A parking officer Friday heard the firework go off around 1:30 p.m. and is credited with helping the victim avoid extreme blood loss by rendering quick aid and tying a tourniquet on his arm.
Chief Ronald Sellon of the Mansfield Police Department called it an "isolated incident." and tweeted:
"The area has been checked by @MassStatePolice EOD dogs and is safe to normal pedestrians and user traffic. Appears to be an isolated incident near the tracks," he tweeted.
He also said there were no delays for the scheduled train stops.
Keolis, the company that operates the MBTA Commuter Rail, is working to clean up the scene, according to police.
