Police Cruiser Hit, Driver Charged With OUI

The cruiser was occupied by a state trooper who was monitoring traffic around the road work

A drunk driver crashed into the back of a Massachusetts State Police cruiser parked by a roadside construction crew on I-95 northbound - at exit 32 - in Burlington, Massachusetts Sunday night.

The cruiser, which was occupied by a state trooper who was monitoring traffic around the road work, apparently sustained serious damage to its back end.

According to police, the state trooper, whose name has not been released, suffered a leg injury and was taken to Lahey Clinic for treatment.

Despite his leg, police said the trooper exited the cruiser and ran after the suspect, who initially tried to leave the scene of the accident.

He ultimately arrested the driver of the car, 54-year-old Robert M. Cambria of Andover.

Cambria was charged with operating under the influence of liquor. His 2016 Kia Sorrento was heavily damaged in front.

Police said that, at the time of the crash, the cruiser had its emergency lights activated.
