(NECN/NBC News: Danielle Leigh) - For the second day in a row Wednesday, thousands of people crowded into the Supreme Court plaza to rally both for and against same-sex marriage.
The Court is considering whether the Defense of Marriage Act is discriminatory and therefore unconstitutional.
It prevents the federal government from recognizing marriages of even those same sex couples who are legally married.
The case will also address procedural issues, specifically the court's concern about whether it should even be hearing this case.
To consider that very question they even brought in a Harvard law professor.
The issue is, to bring a case before the Supreme Court you have to have a claim of injury. The Justice Department isn't defending this law; it was brought forth by House Republicans instead.
A final decision is expected in June.
