Man Injured Jumping From Burning Home in Boston

A man was injured Friday morning after jumping from a home that caught fire in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

Boston fire officials said the home at 13 Gaston St. broke out at 7:45 a.m. and quickly reached 2-alarms.

"The fire started on the first floor. It quickly spread by way of the stairway and some of the interior walls," said Deputy Boston Fire Chief Andre Stallworth.

The blaze then spread to the second and third floors, forcing a man to jump from a second-floor window.

"We have one injury. Somebody was forced to jump out of the building. That person seems to be stable at this time," Stallworth said.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officials said the man was the only one home at the time. A total of five people, including three children, have been displaced as a result of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the home is estimated at $300,000.
