1 Killed in Crash Off I-95 in New Hampshire

The car went off the road and struck a tree

A Portsmouth, New Hampshire, man was killed when his car went off the road and struck a tree on the Interstate 95 on-ramp from Route 101 near the Hampton tolls on Monday morning.

Shortly after 10 a.m., New Hampshire State Police were called to a report of a single-vehicle accident on the ramp to I-95 from Route 101 west in Hampton.

Preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Hyundai Sonata driven by Louis Kloppenburg, 60, was traveling on the ramp to I-95 from Route 101 when it went off the road, down an embankment and struck a tree.

Kloppenburg was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he later died from injuries he suffered in the accident.

The ramp to I-95 was closed for about two hours as troopers conducted their investigation. Hampton Police, Hampton Fire and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation provided assistance at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
