Two former high school football players in Vermont involved in a hazing scandal have pleaded guilty to simple assault on a younger teammate.

Nineteen-year-old Colby Darling and 20-year-old Brian Lasell pleaded guilty Tuesday in Vermont Superior Court. The Burlington Free Press reports the attack happened in the basement of Lasell's home during a team dinner in the fall of 2012.

The two were among five men ranging in age from 18 to 20 accused of hazing in 2011 and 2012. Court documents accused them of holding initiations at homes and at Milton High School. They all initially pleaded not guilty.

If Darling and Lasell follow the terms of state probation until June 16, 2016, the convictions will be erased from their criminal records.
