A Massachusetts police chief says one of his officers was seriously hurt in an early morning head-on crash while responding to reports of an out-of-control house party.

The other, civilian driver involved in the crash also suffered serious injuries.

Framingham Chief Kenneth Ferguson says the officer was working a detail just after midnight Friday when he heard radio reports of the house party.

More than 200 people were in attendance at the Brook Street party, sources told NBC10.

Ferguson says the officer responded in his personal pickup truck and collided head-on with a sedan that had crossed into his lane at the intersection of Edgell Road and Central Street. It appears the car was leaving the party site.

The officer and the car's driver were flown to separate hospitals for treatment although Ferguson says it appears both will survive.

Two people were arrested in connection with the house party. Police arrested Devante Santiago of Hyde Park for disorderly conduct and Keith Worthy of Springfield. Worthy faces several charges including assault and battery of a police officer.

Worthy told NBC10 that he had rented the house in Brook Street through Air BnB to host his birthday party.

"Things got a little out of hand, more people showed up than I expected," said Worthy. "The accident is terrible, I feel terrible. It's just a bad situation."

The name of the injured officer and civilian have not been released. The crash remains under investigation.
