    Officials Discuss Security Details Before the Fourth

    Authorities in Boston are preparing for the festivities on the Fourth of July.

    Officials announced on Monday musical guests, security plans and prohibited items for this year’s Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular festivities for Independence Day.

    Boston Symphony Orchestra conductor, Keith Lockhart, announced singer Rachel Platten and the Indigo Girls as performers for the event. Gov. Charles Baker and Mayor Martin Walsh expressed their excitement for the celebration.

    Officials emphasized the importance of safety and ask event goers to follow the "see something, say something," protocol. From there, police and security will handle situations.

    Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety, Daniel Bennett, said there is no credible threat to the city of Boston at this time.

    State and city leaders are encouraging people t o stay cool and hydrated for a hot Fourth of July celebration in Boston.

    Baker advises attendants to prepare for the heat by bringing sunscreen and water to the celebration. He urged attendants to contact medical crews should anyone feel heat exhaustion.

    Walsh encourages everyone to take public transportation, walk or bike to the event. Street closures are expected to be in effect for the celebration, he said.

    Glass containers, coolers on wheels, alcohol and drugs are prohibited from the event, Bennett said. Liquids must be sealed in clear containers and bikes will not be allowed past checkpoints. Click here for a full list of prohibited items.

    The annual Fourth of July event is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Wednesday on the Charles River Esplanade.
