Police Probe Lowell, Mass. Teen Drowning

(NECN: Justin Michaels, Lowell, Mass.) - Police continue investigating a disturbing discovery in the pool at Lowell High School, after a teen was found dead in the water.

Lowell, Mass. Police are looking to figure out why a teenage boy wound up dead in the indoor pool on Monday afternoon.

"He was discovered by a group of people who were authorized to use the pool… they came in shortly before we were alerted and discovered the young man," Deputy Superintendent Arthur Ryan said.

The teen had no identification.

There's no word on how long the boy was in the water. Police only know that he drowned.

Investigators do not believe foul play was involved in the boy's death.

"We are looking at all the security features of the school. All the video surveillance that may be available. And trying to determine the circumstances of how this individual was in the pool area," Ryan said.

Like many public buildings, police say Lowell High School is used all summer long for various events, making it difficult to determine exactly when the boy entered the school, and what caused him to drown.

"It's a large building and there are multiple ways to get in, now how this individual did is the subject of the investigation," Ryan said.

The next step for investigators is waiting for the results of an autopsy.
