(NECN/NBC News: Keir Simmons) - The two Australian radio DJs behind the prank call to a London hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated for a form of severe morning sickness are speaking out.
The pair went on national television just days after one of the nurses who took the call was found dead on Friday in London.
Police are treating her death as "unexplained," and a post-mortem is expected this week.
In tears on Monday, the DJs who made the prank call to Kate's hospital spoke. They have been subjected to death threats.
"If we played any involvement in her death, then we're very sorry for that,” said Mel Greig, one of the DJs. “Nothing could make me feel worse than what I feel right now and what I feel for the family. We're very sorry this has happened to them.”
The DJs spoke out publicly for the first time in a series of Australian television interviews about how they heard the nurse who answered the call had died.
“Unfortunately, I remember that moment very well,” Greig said. “Can't stop thinking about it since it happened. And I remember my first question was, 'Was she a mother?' And the thought that we may have played a part in that is gutwrenching.”
"Shattered, gutted, heartbroken,” DJ Michael Christian said of his emotions. “And we hope they're doing OK and getting love and support they need and deserve right now."

In those interviews, the radio DJs said the call was recorded and signed off by station management before it went to air. The station said several attempts were made to contact the hospital in London before the broadcast.
The DJs’ show has since been canceled.
