Snow and Wintry Mix Taking Aim for New England

Today (Friday): Sun and wispy clouds. Highs in the 30s. Overnight Friday Night: Mostly clear. Lows around 20. Saturday: Sun & clouds, seasonable. Highs around 40. Sunday: Snow to mix to rain. Accumulations coating to 2” south, 3-6” north. Highs in the 40s south, 30s north. (Published Friday, March 8, 2019)

We have another bitter cold morning, but at least we start our warming trend Friday afternoon. Our wind direction changes, ushering in milder temperatures from the southwest. Highs reach the mid to upper 30s under a mostly clear sky.

A weak low-pressure system passes to our south as a coastal storm, but other than a few clouds across the south coast, we miss out on this round of wintry weather. Temps across the coastline may stay in the upper 30s with an onshore breeze, while inland highs will be in the low 40s with increasing sunshine Saturday afternoon.

We have issued a First Alert on Sunday with a wintry mix chance. Snow, changes to a mix then to rain across southern New England from Sunday morning into the afternoon.

Snow lingers and will become more mixed with ice and rain across northern New England Sunday afternoon and evening as the low tracks farther northeast. Temperatures slowly warm Sunday night into Monday as we get a gusty south wind.

Saturday is Certainly the Pick of the Weekend

Highs are expected to top out in the low 50s Monday, before cooling back to the low 40s and upper 30s Tuesday into Wednesday with a gusty west wind.

A bigger warm-up may move in for Thursday into Friday as highs reach the mid to upper 50s. Though we have a chance for scattered rain across all of New England, I think we will still all enjoy the spring-like temperatures.

More 50s are possible next Saturday, and we cool to the low 40s for St. Patrick’s Day.
