5K and One-Mile Races Draw Thousands as Marathon Nears

Runners prep for 26.2 miles and run for charity

Thousands of runners turned out for the annual BAA 5K and one-mile races on Boston's Boylston and Charles streets Saturday.

Some runners used the races to set their own records and warm up for the marathon, while others ran for charity.

Kimberly Townsend was running with inspiration after a misdiagnosis of ALS.

"You find strength you didn't know you had," she said. "I think running and training brought that strength to the forefront."

Townsend said she has new hope and is getting better.
