Bridge Work Could Cause Traffic Delays in Braintree This Weekend

A traffic alert for drivers south of Boston - get ready for delays this weekend.

It's round two of the $6.3 million Route 3 bridge replacement project in Braintree, Massachusetts.

The detours start at 10 p.m. Friday and go until 5 a.m. on Monday.

Crews are replacing the bridge on the southbound side of the highway. Preparation and work-related activities have been ongoing since the spring.

The Route 3 bridge replacement activities involve crews putting in place welded steel plate girders, composite concrete decks and modified beam sets in order to complete these accelerated operations in just two 55-hour periods over two weekends. The first round of the bridge replacement was completed last month.

All work associated with the project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2018 as activities to be completed in 2018 include removing the crossovers, utility operations, drainage work, landscaping, and minor finishing work.
