The Cambridge Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a man suspected of secretly recording a woman in a retail store’s restroom.

On June 16, Cambridge police responded to a call and were told that the victim, a 34-year-old woman from Connecticut, went into a restroom at The Garment District when movement under the sink caught her eye. Upon inspection, she saw an open hole in the wall that separates the two bathrooms.

The woman said she saw a pen-like object sticking through the hole and said its shiny texture resembled that of a camera. She stuffed toilet paper into the hole and then heard someone exit the restroom next door.

Along with the store's management, the woman took a look at security footage and saw a man exit the restroom just before she did.

Cambridge police are looking for a man believed to have recorded a woman in a restroom.

Surveillance footage showed the potential peeping Tom enter the restroom at 2:26 p.m. and exit at 3:18 p.m., two minutes before the victim left.

Co-owner Brooks Fletcher said the man in the surveillance video didn't appear to be shopping.

    "I was horrified," he said.

A responding officer found a small hole under the restroom's sink that had enough space for a camera to peer through. Cambridge police said the hole had a clear view of the toilet area. It is unknown if the hole was there prior to the woman’s experience or if it was created while she was using the restroom.

Police described the man as 30- to 40-years-old and said he wore a green shirt, dark shorts and dark sneakers with white soles.

"So this a person we're looking to speak to, this is a person we are looking to identify," said Cambridge Public Information Officer, Jeremy Warnick.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact the Cambridge Police Department at 617-349-3300.
