Cops: Man Crashes Car, Dies After Driving at 96 MPH

Officers say the car was traveling at 96 MPH before it veered off the road

Authorities say a Massachusetts man died in Maine after his car veered off the road and crashed into a stone wall and multiple trees.

Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols says 29-year-old Johnathan Daellenbach of Reading, Massachusetts was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday night in New Vineyard.

Nichols says deputies were monitoring traffic around 9:40 p.m. when an officer noticed a car moving southbound on Route 27 over the speed limit. He says an officer tried to pursue the car but it was traveling at 96 mph.

Authorities then discovered that the car went off the road. An initial investigation revealed that Daellenbach was wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in the car.

The incident remains under investigation.
