A famous roadside attraction in Saugus, Massachusetts, may be on the road to extinction.
An orange dinosaur that has loomed over a stretch of Route 1 for five decades is facing some 21st century challenges. A $1.4 million land deal threatens to steal away the miniature golf, batting cages, and soft serve ice cream habitat of the iconic t-rex.
"We were actually at the beach and when I heard I said 'okay, we got to pull over and we got to go,' because I've had memories here. I came here as a kid myself," said one local, Yaimani Rivera.
"I've been coming here since I was a kid," added Kurt Johns. "It's a big disappointment."
"It's sad. I grew up here, my daughter grew up here," said Barbara Salerno.
MT Realty of Lynnfield has confirmed that they have an agreement to buy the property for a hotel and luxury apartments.
But if the Hilltop Steakhouse cactus can survive demolition, maybe there's still hope for the dinosaur.
