Classes were canceled Friday for students at a Massachusetts high school after a small fire broke out in the structure.

The blaze was reported sometime before 6:15 a.m. at Hingham High School. Fire Chief Steve Murphy said the fire was contained to one room on the second floor of the building.

Fire crews extinguished the flames by 6:40 a.m. and stayed at the site to clear the smoke.

Officials said the fire appeared to have started from a VHS player that had been left on.

The blaze shut down power at the school, prompting school officials to cancel class for the day as they clean up the affected classroom. AP exams scheduled for Friday were also canceled, according to the school's superintendent.

Aerial footage from NBC10 Boston's Sky Ranger Helicopter showed at least a dozen firefighters and several firetrucks responding to the scene. Some firefighters inspected from the roof of the building.

    No injuries were reported.
