    Government Shuts Down as Congress Fails to Agree on Spending

    The U.S. government entered a partial shutdown after Congress failed to reach agreement on a spending bill. (Published Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018)

    As President Donald Trump and Congress fail to come to an agreement for a budget, the government shutdown continues and affects local tourist spots.

    Boston tourists who visit the Hub for the holidays will find that the John F. Kennedy Library, Bunker Hill Monument Visitor Center and Charlestown Navy Yard Visitor Center will be closed. The landmarks’ websites warn potential visitors that they are closed due to the shutdown.

    "Websites and social media are not being updated or monitored, and activities are canceled, with some exceptions," the JFK Library said on its website.

    The other two locations are run by the National Park Service, which warned visitors that the sites are closed.
