John A. Townsend was arrested Friday evening in Whitman on charges of trafficking fentanyl.

A man was arrested Friday night in Whitman, Massachusetts for trafficking fentanyl following a two-month investigation, police announced.

John Townsend, 31, was charged with drug trafficking and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl. The investigation leading to his arrest started in February, when police developed information about opioid distribution in the area, according to Whitman police.

Friday evening, detectives observed an apparent drug transaction taking place in a driveway near Auburn and School streets. Townsend will be arraigned in Brockton District Court on Monday.
