A 60-year-old Haverhill, Massachusetts man was killed Sunday when a tree fell on him while he was doing yard work with his adult son.
Officials with the Essex County District Attorney's Office said the victim and his son had reportedly been removing damaged trees from the Hoyt Road yard when one tree fell onto another tree around 5 p.m.. As the victim was working on the fallen tree, the other tree gave way and fell on him, pinning him underneath.
When the Haverhill Fire Department arrived, it had to cut the tree to remove it.
The victim was taken to Holy Family Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
He has since been identified as Michael Sughrue.
Authorities said the victim and his son had been trying to clear tree branches that had fallen from this winter's storms.
