A suspended Massachusetts state trooper has been acquitted of motor vehicle manslaughter charges in connection with a 2013 head-on crash that killed a mother and daughter returning home from a Red Sox game.
John Basler, however, was convicted by a jury on Tuesday of drunken driving, reckless operation and carrying a firearm while intoxicated.
Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Basler was off duty and driving in Plymouth shortly after midnight on Sept. 22, 2013, when a car driven by 64-year-old Susan Macchi apparently drifted into the oncoming lane on a wet road. Susan Macchi and 23-year-old Juliet Macchi, both of Carver, died.
Prosecutors say Basler, of Kingston, had a blood-alcohol level of .19, more than twice the legal limit to drive.
He was suspended without pay after the crash.
