Mother Sentenced to 10-20 Years in Prison for Hurting Baby

A New Hampshire mother has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for injuring her infant daughter during a physical "tug-of-war" confrontation with her boyfriend in 2013.

Police said the month-old baby suffered broken arms, legs and ribs as the two pulled at the child during a fight.

Christine Tumulty of Newton was sentenced Tuesday on multiple counts of second-degree assault.

A Division for Children, Youth and Families case worker who spoke on behalf of Tumulty said she has a close bond with her two older children. Tumulty's lawyer asked for a suspended sentence, but the judge disagreed.

Tumulty's boyfriend and the child's father, Allen Rockwood, also was charged with assault. He was sentenced to eight to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty last year.
