Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault in a Massachusetts high school, according to district officials.
The Weymouth School District acknowledged that the alleged attack had taken place Monday inside Weymouth High School.
"As soon as we became aware of the incident, we immediately involved the Weymouth Police and took appropriate action in accordance with our code of conduct," read a statement attributed to Dr. Jennifer Curtis-Whipple, the superintendent of Weymouth Public Schools, and Alan Strauss, the principal of Weymouth High School.
The statement said the incident "involves minor students."
"This is an unfortunate event and we want to be mindful of the possible effects that this may have on our students," the statement read. "To that end, we will have our guidance staff and school adjustment staff available to meet with any students who wish to meet with staff regarding this event."
