Woman Hit and Killed by Dump Truck

A woman was hit and killed by a dump truck Friday night in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Authorities confirm a female pedestrians in her 20s was hit at the intersection of Putnam Avenue and Magazine Street.

Witnesses say the truck was backing up when it ran over the woman.

"The construction truck was backing up very slowly and the woman went around the truck and she lost her footing," said Sherry Sanchez, who was in the area. "He didn't even know she was there."

Another neighbor rushed out to cover the victim's body.

"I grabbed some towels," said Cam Hicks, who lives nearby. "At that point, there was a single officer sort of trying to hold off four directions of traffic."

The dump truck was still on the scene after the crash.

The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office said the woman's identity would not be released until next of kin had been notified.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
