Puppy Found Abandoned and Injured on Busy Everett Road

Investigators are working to determine who abandoned a badly injured 10-pound puppy in the middle of a busy Massachusetts road.

The Chihuahua-beagle mix was found in the middle of Route 16 in Everett late Tuesday night. Jamie-Lee Hersey was recording her drive when she saw the dog.

"I threw the phone down cause I seen something in the middle of the road," she said. "I knew it was a dog. I immediately jumped out in traffic."

The puppy was covered in blood. She brought him to the side of the road. Chris Desrochers pulled over, as well.

"Me and Jamie grabbed blankets, sweaters, wrapped them around the dog to keep him somewhat warm," he said. "The dog wanted to run away and be on his own, so we held him behind the barrels over there to keep the wind chill away from him."

Animal control rushed the puppy to the vet. He has serious injuries, including bruises to his chest and a possible ruptured bladder. One of his legs may have to be amputated.

Investigators have received an anonymous tip that the dog may have been thrown out of a vehicle — possibly a black Cadillac Escalade.

Authorities don't think the puppy was hit by any cars, as the injuries would have been even worse. They are trying to figure out how he got there.
