Shotgun Taken From Stolen Police Cruiser in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Recovered

Police in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, said they have recovered a shotgun that was stolen during the theft of an unmarked police cruiser from an officer's home earlier this week.

Chelmsford police said the missing shotgun was located in Lowell.

The theft occurred at the officer's home in Chelmsford overnight Wednesday. Police said the thieves broke into the officer's garage, took two sets of keys and stole an unmarked Ford Taurus police cruiser and a Saturn wagon from the driveway.

The Saturn was found near the officer's home and the Taurus was found on Bowden Street in neighboring Lowell on Thursday morning. But the shotgun, which was kept in the trunk of the cruiser, was not inside and became the subject of a high-priority police investigation.

Police said the "facts and circumstances" of the incident remain under investigation.
