Two Massachusetts police officers were hospitalized early Monday morning after authorities said a driver tried running them over in Springfield.

Police said officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Belmont Avenue just before 2 a.m. When officers arrived, the victim pointed out a man in an SUV who had allegedly assaulted her.

Authorities said the officers pulled the man over nearby and demanded he get out of his vehicle after it appeared he was hiding something between his legs.

When the driver refused to get out and an officer tried to remove him, police said the driver accelerated with the officer's leg still inside the vehicle. While speeding away, another officer was allegedly struck and dragged about 5 to 7 feet.

Police said the driver then began driving at a high rate of speed toward East Longmeadow, traveling at speeds more than 100 mph. He was last seen driving towards Connecticut. A description of the vehicle has not been released.

Both officers, one male, one female, were taken to Mercy Hospital. One officer was then taken to Baystate Medical Center for further evaluation. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries. Their names have not been released.
