State Trooper Arrested for Domestic Abuse

Massachusetts State Police have charged one of their own with attempted strangulation and domestic abuse of his girlfriend, the department says.

The 45-year-old Boxborough resident was taken into custody Saturday night.

A preliminary investigation suggests the trooper restrained his girlfriend and chocked her with his hands before she was able to break free.

After the alleged attack, the girlfriend waited for the trooper to fall asleep before she fled the apartment they shared.

The arrested trooper has been taken off duty, according to State Police.

The trooper will be arraigned Monday in Ayer District Court. Bail has been set at $500,000 cash.
