Swastika Left on Bulletin Board at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

A swastika was found Thursday on a bulletin board at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, officials confirmed.

Michelle Williams, dean of faculty at Harvard University's health school, sent a letter to students notifying them that the symbol was discovered on the fifth floor of the Kresge Building.

Push pins were arranged in the shape of a swastika. A student reported it to school officials after finding it.

Officials do not know who left the swastika, but an investigation is ongoing.

"Regardless of whether a member of our own community or someone visiting or working in the building placed the mark there, we wish to make it clear that hate and its symbols have no place within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health," Williams said in the letter. "We condemn any attempt to subvert the School's bedrock commitment to inclusion and belonging and we affirm our dedication to fighting oppression and discrimination — whether subtle or overt — wherever they appear."
