Two people have died in a fire at a vacant house in Rutland, Vermont.
The fire broke out just after 4:20 p.m. Saturday at 41 Baxter Street.
The Rutland City Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that when firefighters arrived at the fire they found two people on the second floor and they were "moved to an area of refuge while the fire was fought.''
The fire department wrote in its post that despite their "very best efforts'' the two people died.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends for this tragic loss," the department's post went on to say.
Both bodies were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. The victims' names have not been released.
A second fire was reported at another vacant structure in the city a short time later.
