Police say a woman from Rhode Island on the way to her summer home in Maine died in a collision on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery when a tractor-trailer crashed through guardrails, crossed a median and hit her SUV head on.
Police tell the Portland Press Herald that 59-year-old Christine Anderson of Smithfield, Rhode Island, was driving north at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday when the southbound truck went of control. Anderson died instantly.
Police say she and her husband own property in Rangeley.
The tractor-trailer driver was identified as 58-year-old Daniel Dunlea of Londonderry, New Hampshire. He was hauling recycled paper products.
Investigators will interview the truck driver and examine the truck for possible mechanical malfunctions.
