BOSTON (AP) - State Treasurer Steven Grossman said if he were governor he would have accepted the resignation of the head of the embattled Department of Children and Families.
Grossman, a Democratic candidate for Massachusetts' top political office, said he would have replaced DCF Commissioner Olga Roche, who has come under fire after social workers lost track of a 5-year-old boy now feared dead.
Grossman, speaking Tuesday on WGBH-FM, said he would have asked former Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Chief Justice Margaret Marshall to "oversee a reform agenda" at the agency and report back to him.
Other Democratic candidates for governor, including Attorney General Martha Coakley, have supported Patrick's decision to retain Roche, while Republican candidate Charlie Baker has called for her resignation.
Gov. Deval Patrick said last week that Roche had offered to step down, but he declined.
