Let’s be honest – we have all wanted a day off from our responsibilities the Monday after an epic Super Bowl Sunday. Schoolchildren from Cincinnati are getting just that to support the Bengals as they take on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
Cincinnati Public Schools made an announcement on Monday that students and staff members will have Feb. 14 off to “celebrate” the Bengals’ first Super Bowl victory, amending the academic calendar.
A letter sent to parents obtained by ESPN read: “We hope that you enjoy roaring the Bengals to a win on Sunday and take this time to take pride in our incredible city and amazing football team.”
Getting a day off from school the Monday after a Super Bowl is not unusual, CPS board member Mike Moroski told the Cincinnati Enquirer. However, this year the school calendar didn’t have that day marked off, but the district got the approval to go ahead and make the adjustment after the Bengals’ upset over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Other schools in the Cincinnati area have indicated they are likely to close on the Monday after Super Bowl LVI as well.
The Bengals edged the Chiefs 27-24 in overtime to continue the franchise’s best playoff run since the 1988 season when they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 23. Cincinnati made their first Super Bowl run in the 1981 season, which they also lost to the 49ers.
