Many across the credit card industry are ramping up security efforts amid the outbreak of recent data breaches.

Visa and MasterCard are rolling out technology that will replace card information with a unique set of numbers to validate a customer's identity.

In the wake of all the breaches, data security expert Steve Weisman joined NECN to share some tips on how to protect yourself from being compromised.

Weisman recently released a book titled, "Identity Theft Alert." He's also a professor at Bentley University.

Weisman says the recent Home Depot data breach will be bigger than Target's. He urges Home Depot customers to monitor their credit card statement on a daily basis.
