January Thaw Continues Through Monday

Temperatures overachieved ever so slightly on this Sunday. Without wind and with sunshine, the upper 40s felt amazing. This January thaw rolls on. Temperatures were above average, but we’re still more than three degrees below average for the month. Our dry weekend will give way to an unsettled start to the week.

Monday, an icy mix is possible north of Route 2. In the mountains there is a better chance of seeing a little snow. The warm front Monday into Tuesday will charge north to the US/Canadian border. Snow will change to rain, even in the mountains.

Up to an inch of rain is likely on Tuesday for most of New England. Winds will increase. Gusts along the south coast, Cape and Islands could gust as high as 50 mph. Temperatures will climb into the 50s on Tuesday. There is a heightened threat for ice jam flooding. Ice on most rivers has stayed intact and could cause additional problems with this next round of wind, rain and warm temperatures.

Once the system moves out, temperatures will cool off, but my no means will it get cold. Temperatures will moderate once again by the end of the week. The weather next weekend looks very similar to the weather we saw this weekend. Temperatures will reach into the 40s. Sunday, clouds will increase and we’ll see another round of showers.
