12 Houses Destroyed Or in Danger in Plum Island, Mass.

(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, Plum Island, Mass.) - Two homes will have to be taken down in Plum Island, Mass. In all, 12 homes cannot be occupied.

Although the storm has begun to subside, the waves remain ferocious.

One home, at 43 Annapolis Way, collapsed and is in danger of being entirely swallowed by the tides.

Steven Bandoian, the home's owner, is away in Florida. He has had to watch helplessly as his home is destroyed.

"That was my home and I could have protected it," said Bandoian. "And I wasn't allowed to."

Massachusetts DEP Commissioner Ken Kimmell said he understands the frustration, but that some of the proposals to protect homes would adversely affect the environment or create more erosion for neighboring homes.
