A high school senior died in a pickup truck crash in Middleton, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, school officials said Thursday.
A 17-year-old boy was also hurt in the crash, police said, giving the age of the man who died as 18. Two other youths, an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, escaped the crash without serious injury.
The person who died was a Northeast Metro Tech student was from Malden, school officials said, but didn't name him. Counseling and grief assistance were being made available at the school in Wakefield, the district said.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our students. We will have the necessary resources available for our community as they navigate this difficult time," Superintendent David DiBarri said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the student. I encourage students and our own faculty and staff to use the resources available during this difficult time as emotions and grief come in all forms."

The crash took place about 10 p.m. on an unpaved stretch on North Liberty Road, police said. The pickup was on its roof, with the two female occupants out of the vehicle and two male ones still inside.
Firefighters got the two males out, but the 18-year-old died after being taken to the hospital. The 17-year-old remained in the hospital with serious injuries on Thursday aftenroon, while the other two occupants were treated for injuries and released.

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately available and the local and state police investigation was ongoing Thursday afternoon.
