Boston public broadcaster WGBH has announced that it plans to buy digital international news organization GlobalPost.
WGBH, a producer of television, radio and digital content, announced Thursday that Boston-based GlobalPost's news would be integrated into Public Radio International, an affiliated company of WGBH. PRI will bring GlobalPost's reporters, digital team and globalpost.com into its international news operations.
The acquisition is expected to be completed in November. Terms of deal were not disclosed.
PRI President and CEO Alisa Miller says the partnership "will create one of the most influential, in-depth digital global news platforms" that will expand reporting and audience reach.
Philip Balboni, GlobalPost's founder and president, says "GlobalPost's values and mission are perfectly aligned with WGBH and PRI."
