| December 28, 2008 First Night ice sculptors battle warmth
|
(Stephen Iandoli, NECN) - Two weeks ago we were dealing with one of the worst ice storms in New England history. Back-to-back snow storms one week ago crippled the region. Now, just three days before First Night, not only have things thawed, but heavy coats are in the closet with temperatures around 60 degrees.
And while people may enjoy the break from the harsh winter temperatures, there is one traditional activity this time of year that has been put on hold because of the weather -- First Night ice sculpting. Some that are outside already are under wrap until the temps fall later Sunday night or Monday.
Obviously warmth is a huge element an ice sculptor battles when performing their craft. Sculptures that have not been brought outside, yet, are being worked on inside the freezers at Brookline Ice.
NECN's Stephen Iandoli reports in the video player above.
