(NECN: Stephen Iandoli, Dorchester, Mass.) - Never meeting before Saturday, they now share a special bond. Tara Lee, and her two infant children, said goodbye to homelessness and hello to their new home on Warren Street Saturday afternoon.
It was a step forward made possible by a Greater Boston non-profit, and a giving group of Temple Israel sixth graders.
Not immune to the economic turmoil in the world today, the effect on children is usually a trickle down one. But the impact these 11 and 12-year-olds made Saturday was as direct as it gets.
As part of their social justice education, the students teamed up with Heading Home, a non-profit company aimed at ending homelessness, to clean and restore this apartment in Dorchester. They also raised money to buy, and spent time collecting, donated furniture.
Lee also said any of these kids who volunteered their time to help her out are welcome to visit any time they would like.
