A group named Mercy for Animals captured undercover video from Quality Egg of New England, which is located in Turner, Maine.
The group said that video shows hens stuffed in cramped cages, some of them sick and injured. Allegations also include mistreatment by the plant's workers.
State inspectors searched the farm on Wednesday and prosecutors will investigate before deciding whether any charges will be filed.
The group said Quality Egg is a major supplier for Pennsylvania-based Eggland's Best.
