Francona on new uniforms, Teixeira and Sabathia

(NECN: Boston) - Manager Terry Francona, Jim Rice and Jerry Remy were on hand at Game On Thursday evening to show off the Red Sox's new uniforms. The uniforms feature retro blue lettering across the front. The team will also have an alternate look on their caps, with the hanging pair of Red Sox, replacing the 'B'.

The "Hanging Sox" logo, a prominent mainstay in the club's collection of logos since it first appeared on a Red Sox uniform in 1931, will become the team's new primary logo and used more frequently in the future.

Francona says he is a fan of the retro look, but wouldn't bite when asked if he would like to see Mark Teixeira in one. Francona laughed and said, "Nice try. You're going to have to ask Theo that question." He also said that the winter meetings held this week were boring, and more for the agents, rather than the teams.

Francona also commented on the signing of CC Sabathia to New York. "We are going to have to face one of the top pitchers in the game five or six times a year. That's tough duty." However, he wasn't all that surprised by the big Yankees signing. "you knew going in to this winter they were going to go unload. They were moving into a new stadium, they didn't make the playoffs, it was ripe for this to happen."
