Hurdles for Wynn Resort and Everett, Massachusetts

The casino license for Wynn Resort's resort casino proposal in Everett, Massachusetts, was granted by a 3-1 vote of the Massachusetts Gaming commission.

Commonwealth Magazine's Bruce Mohl says there's a story behind the one commission member who sided against the Everett applicaiton.

Two of the commissioners were convinced by the job creation numbers they saw in Everett, and when it came to the final day of deliberations, Wynn Resorts "basically offered a whole new plan," he said.

"Clearly, Wynn went a long way in satisfying the concerns," a commissioner had raised, Mohl said.

According to Mohl, the commission asked the applicants to come back to explain their proposals. Mohegan Sun reportedly was first and explained their proposal. Wynn Resorts then reportedly delivered a changed proposal at that same meeting following Mohegan's proposal.

The commission let Wynn Resorts "get away with it, and when Mohegan filed their objection, I guess, at 10 o'clock at night that night, the commissioners really didn't get around to it until the next morning when they're ready to sign the license and I don't think they wanted to have anything to do with it," Mohl said.
